.STORY DRAWER.
.What.
Story Drawer plays the seldom heard and untold stories
of
Museum artefacts
when
they
are placed upon it's surface.
.How.
Story Drawer uses RFID (Radio Frequencey Identification)
a microchip circuit and a specialised mp3 device.
Each story takes the form of an audio track stored on a usb flash drive and each audio track is associated
with an RFID tag.
The artefacts have a tag attached to them and when they are placed upon Story Drawer an
RFID Reader
recognises the tag and tells the MP3 device to play an appropriate track from the USB flash drive.
.Why.
Story Drawer has been designed as a counter to the current culture of products designed with emphasis
on
the technology. I believe interactions with products should be more evocative and less convoluted.
Story Drawer reflects this by combining refreshingly eloquent function with clean and refined aesthetics.

.D&AD COMPETITION.
.What.
Everyware challenges the role of the cooking pot. It is desirable and
multi-functional product
that
offers
unique aesthetics and versatility.
.How.
Everyware differs from standard cooking pots in three ways. It is not just a cooking pot. It has a range of
detachable
handles and is designed to stack creating a unique visual aesthetic. The handles attach and
detach
via an entry
point on the specially designed rim allowing the pot to be carried and operated as the
user sees fit.
The pot has
also been designed with sloped edges so when the handles are detached the
pot becomes an attractive serving vessel.
.Why.
Brief: Design solutions for the home by discovering un-met needs in the kitchen. Sponsored by
Lakeland.
My research of the home and kitchen revealed that we have a plethora of kitchenware products, one for
every need and some for needs we don’t have. I wanted to improve an existing product and challenge the
limited function of cooking pots. In doing so I sought to produce a product with greater value that is more
durable than existing cooking pots and can be cherished.

.TRANSACTIONS & INTERACTIONS.
.What.
Open Bank is a revolutionary personal banking service. The service
does not require local
branches
to offer physical banking facilities.
.How.
Open Bank provides an ‘Open Account’ that allows the client to use the traditional physical banking
facilities
of any major bank. By not having local branches Open Bank has none of the associated costs.
This makes
it possible for Open Bank to pay administration fees to any bank in return for the use of its
physical facilities.
By implementing a digital ‘leech’ network, the basic account information
of the client
necessary to do physical
banking is instantly transferable between the local branches
of any financial
institution.
Open bank also offers personal financial advice in the form of an adviser who visits the client at home.
The adviser has in depth knowledge of client and the families’ finances and understands
their aspirations
and values.
.Why.
The words ‘financial services’ have different connotations for different people, from humdrum and
inconvenient
to vital and reassuring. Finance is a major part of our lives and so how we engage and
interact with financial
services is important. As designers can we turn humdrum and inconvenient into
vital and reassuring? NCR set
a brief to develop a set of family Characters based on research of real
people and design a bespoke banking
service for a member of the family.
